Commited to Sustainability with every order

We’re proud to have integrated true sustainability into every order at our store for the past 10 years. For each purchase on our store, we plant one tree in Madagascar and remove one plastic bottle from the ocean, thanks to our partnerships with environmental initiatives.

Tree Planting Initiative

Through Eden Reforestation Projects (Tree Planting in Madagascar) we focus on planting mangrove trees. These trees protect coastlines, support wildlife like lemurs, and store carbon, while also providing jobs for local communities.

Plastic Removal Efforts

Our collaboration with Plastic Bank (Plastic Removal Project) ensures each order removes ocean-bound plastic, protecting marine life, reducing emissions, and offering income and benefits to coastal communities.

Supporting Communities and Fighting Poverty

These initiative provides meaningful wages to indigenous populations, fostering long-term employment and livelihood improvements. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by empowering local communities.

Transparency and Impact

Your order triggers these actions through an API, with updates provided to ensure transparency to show how your purchase directly supports global sustainability efforts.

Detailed Report on Our Sustainability Initiatives

This report provides a comprehensive overview of our online jewelry store’s sustainability efforts, focusing on our commitment to plant one tree and remove one plastic bottle per order. It draws on detailed information from our partnerships and aims to inform you about the environmental and social impacts of your purchase.

Background and Context

At Manipura, we recognize the importance of environmental stewardship, especially given the jewelry industry’s potential ecological footprint. To align with our sustainability goals, we’ve partnered with an API that ensures each order contributes to two key initiatives: tree planting in Madagascar and plastic removal from oceans. These efforts are facilitated through collaborations with Eden Reforestation Projects and Plastic Bank, as detailed in the provided resources.

Tree Planting Initiative in Madagascar

Our tree planting program is centered in Madagascar, a biodiversity hotspot with over 200 mammal species, 100 lemur species, 300 bird species, and nearly 300 amphibian species, 90% of which are endemic. Through our partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects ([Tree Planting in Madagascar](https://thegoodapi.com/tree-planting-madagascar)), we focus on planting mangrove trees, which offer multiple benefits:

Environmental Impact

Mangroves are critical for protecting coastlines against storm surges, sheltering nurseries for fish and marine life, and providing building materials and firewood for local communities. They also act as significant carbon sinks, holding 20 petagrams of carbon globally despite covering less than 5% of the world’s terrestrial area, and sequester carbon at a fast rate.

Conservation Priority

Madagascar’s forests are under threat, making reforestation urgent. Our project supports wildlife by restoring natural habitats, which are crucial for species survival, and helps combat climate change through carbon storage.

Plastic Removal from Oceans

Our plastic removal effort is conducted through a partnership with Plastic Bank (Plastic Removal Project), focusing on removing ocean-bound plastics within 50km of ocean-bound waterways and coastlines. This initiative addresses the global plastic pollution crisis, with the following details:

Environmental Benefits

Collecting and recycling plastics reduces the flow into oceans, protecting marine life, microorganisms, and endangered species. It also contributes to a circular economy by using recycled plastics as feedstock, reducing the need for virgin plastic and lowering CO2 emissions from the plastic lifecycle.

Sustainability

The project supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which aim for a sustainable future by mitigating marine ecosystem damage and reducing carbon footprints.

Community Support

Collection communities earn additional income by exchanging plastic as money, and receive social benefits such as health insurance, work insurance, life insurance, digital connectivity, grocery vouchers, school supplies, and fintech services. This has provided opportunities to 50,992 collection members in vulnerable coastal areas worldwide, adhering to a strict Code of Conduct for safe, inclusive work environments, upholding labor and human rights.

Integration and Process

For each order placed on our store, the API seamlessly integrates with these projects to ensure one tree is planted and one plastic bottle is removed. This process is automatic, requiring no additional action from our customers, and is designed to enhance conversion by showcasing our sustainability commitment throughout the user journey with badges and live counters.

Tree Planting Process

Trees are planted in Madagascar, with costs kept low due to the use of free or affordable resources, such as mangrove propagules for natural regeneration. Certificates are sent monthly to verify the number of trees planted.

Plastic Removal Process

Plastics are collected from ocean-bound areas, with verified removals tracked and certificates provided monthly. The initiative focuses on high-risk areas, ensuring efficient collection and recycling.

Transparency and Verification

We prioritize transparency, with each action tracked via the API. This allows us to provide regular updates and reports to our customers, ensuring they can see the real impact of their purchases. While the exact verification methods may vary, our partnerships with Eden Reforestation Projects and Plastic Bank ensure accountability, with dedicated support teams available to assist and verify impacts.

Beyond environmental benefits, our initiatives significantly empower local communities. In Madagascar, tree planting provides wages and supports indigenous populations, while plastic collection offers income and social benefits like health insurance, unexpectedly enhancing social equity alongside ecological restoration.

Call to Action

We invite our visitors to join us in making a difference. By shopping at our store, you’re not just purchasing jewelry; you’re investing in the planet’s future. Together, we can contribute to preserving biodiversity, reducing plastic pollution, and supporting global sustainability efforts.
