Not every mala needs to look like a mala. This one takes the shape of a tie — long, sleek, unmistakably masculine — while carrying everything a traditional mala carries underneath.

Eighty-one beads of Black Lava and Onyx run the length of it, in both matte and polished finishes — fifty shades of black, each one catching the light a little differently. Lava is porous and rough, born from fire, and carries a steady kind of strength. Onyx is smooth and absorbing, the stone people reach for when they need to feel protected — something solid between them and the noise. At the end, a Clear Quartz pendant wrapped in sterling silver adds one clear, quiet point of focus.

This is for the man — or the person buying for him — who wants the grounding of a mala without anything that reads as "spiritual jewellery" at first glance. Handknotted by me, 81 beads of 8mm, each pair connected by a knot, finished with the Clear Quartz and sterling silver pendant. Because Lava and Onyx are natural stones, the texture and shade of each piece is unique.
